All animal captures and sample collection permits must be in place before conducting the field work.
ABS permits (in compliance with the Nagoya protocol, if applicable) must also be in place.
Export permits issued by competent authorities must be in place before arranging the shipment of the samples.
The EHI management team will ensure all import permits are in place before receiving the samples.
Animal capture and sample collection permits are required before any sampling campaign begins.
Each country or region has its own regulation regarding capture and handling of wild animals and collection of biological samples. It is responsibility of each collaborator to ensure all paperwork is in place before starting the sampling campaign. This includes attention to the question, if the collected samples come from CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) listed species. Relevant information and/or documents should be forwarded to the EHI Management Team, as these might be requested by journals and funding agencies.
All international sample transfers need to adhere to national and international regulations. These are often defined by the Nagoya Protocol. ABS permits and benefit-sharing agreements might be required before sampling can begin.
Sampling of non-human biological materials and subsequent (inter-) national transfer of these samples might have to comply with the Nagoya Protocol and other ABS laws. ABS measures vary from country to country and can be difficult to find (e.g., information may be only in the local language). It is the collaborators responsibility to contact their local ABS authorities before the sampling campaign begins to inquire about local ABS measures, like access permits (Prior Informed Consent), material transfer agreements, and benefit-sharing agreements (Mutually Agreed Terms). If permits are mandatory, please forward all relevant communications to the EHI Management Team. We will then finalise the necessary documents.
The EHI Management Team together with the collaborator will make sure that all export and import permits are in place before samples are shipped to Denmark
Collaborators do not need to worry about import permits, as these will be handled by the EHI Management Team. If required by authorities or courier agencies, collaborators can request information about import permits to the EHI Management Team. Please also have a look at our "Shipping Instruction" page.
